Our Civic Duty (No, Privilege)
Today we exercised one of our most precious freedoms, we voted. Because of our work schedules, Rachel and I vote absentee. We get our ballots a month early, time to read them carefully and discuss how we should vote.
This year the ballot was very long. In addition to all of the midterm candidates that needed to be chosen, there was a long list of ammendments and referrenda to be voted on. I got the distinct feeling that someone was hoping we would not read the whole thing. The list started with ammendments to the Colorado Constitution, wording changes, etc., and then considered issues like defining marriage, (duhhhh- is marriage between a man and a woman, or can I marry my cat? And if so, does my cat have visitation privileges when I am in the hospital?)
Our jails are overcrowded, our schools are failing, the Colorado Buffs are losing, WE NEED MORE MONEY! If you do not agree to increase your own taxes, the Republicans will win the next election! etc., etc.
Needless to say, we take our voting seriously. But since we cannot tell agencies HOW to spend their money, the only thing we can do is control how MUCH money we give them to spend. Since I am not the type to protest in the street or argue politics with my neighbors, I protest with my pen and tax dollars.
I hope you all take this right and responsibility as seriously as we do, and vote. As Christians we tend to be passive and say, "God is in control, He knows what He is doing." But our charge was to be a witness, and if we allow the ungodly to define or limit what we can say or do, we greatly reduce the impact we have on society. Francis Schaffer once said that the reason we have legal abortion in the US, was that Christians were too passive. They did not believe it was their responsibility to be involved in politics.
Go Cats!

Hey there!
I just learned tonight that you guys were doing this. How cool! Now I know where Brandon gets his passion for political issues. ;)
Wouldn't a Wildcat fan like yourself view a relationship between a man and his "Cat" as sacred as a marriage? :)
